Earth Science Project Due 5/1/12

The Climate/Biome Project _________________________

Purpose: Identify biomes based on environmental/climate factors and native organisms.

General Guidelines: Each student pair will research biotic and abiotic factors of a chosen biome. The presentation will be through PowerPoint, a travel brochure that attracts visitors to this biome, and a diorama/model or poster

Instructions: Colorful pictures and graphics should be used throughout the project. Creativity and neatness count! Your project should include the following information:

1. Biome’s place on earth

Where is it (geographical distribution)? List w/pics and map

What is the topography, elevation, and latitude of the region? List 3 w/pics

What are 3 native plants and their adaptations to live there? List 3 w/pics

What are 3 native animals and their adaptations to live there? List 3 w/pics

2. Attractions/Tour Information (For the brochure)

Advertise your biome’s recreational activities (be creative here!) Include 2 pics

Tell visitors what to pack and include the weather information (Include 1 pic)

Tell visitors what they will see, include the animals and plants (Include all pics)

3. Weather and Climate

What is the average precipitation in summer and winter? Include a pic

What is the average temperature in summer and winter? Include a pic

4. Warnings

What are some threats to this biome? List 2, include a pic

Are there any endangered species? List 3, different than above three species,

                include pics of each

Is there a fear of climate change for this biome? If so why?  If not, why not?

5. Analysis/Evaluation

Why is this biome globally important? Any resources from this Biome?

6. Include a reference page and identify references on each slide
